Cecilia Whitehorn

Cecilia is the owner and Managing Director of Belfast based social inclusion consultancy CMWorks, establishing the business in 2000. She has extensive experience of working within all sectors to aid sustainable development, create change and assist transition. Cecilia holds a professional management qualification with full membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, as well as a post-graduate qualification from the Open University on the Management of Voluntary Sector Organisations and a Masters in Guidance and Counselling. She is a member of NICVA and a Common Purpose Graduate. In a voluntary capacity she works on a probono basis with diverse charities and is a European Ambassador for Women’s Entrepreneurship. Cecilia was nominated as one of the Top 50 Business People in Belfast and has also received a commendation from Business in The Community in recognition CMWorks’ responsible business practice and positive impact on the local community.

Cecilia has been involved in social inclusion all of her working life. For sixteen years she was a primary school teacher, then Essential Skills Tutor with young people in Belfast, and for two years Cecilia worked as a WEA Tutor Organiser in community education. Previously Regional Training Manager for Northern Ireland Women’s Aid Federation, Cecilia gained extensive experience of working with others to eliminate domestic and sexual violence and has carried out considerable work including research and development on the issue.

She has particular expertise in the development of work to assist the building of positive relations among and between diverse communities of interest and to eliminate all forms of violence and abuse. Cecilia is responsible for the design and delivery of a number of innovative programmes, including the Communities and Policing in Transition (CAPT) and Future Generations projects, facilitating an 8 day programme for participants from wide ranging communities of interest throughout the island of Ireland. She has been involved in peace building internationally, working in Kosovo and Yemen, both on a paid and voluntary basis.

Cecilia is supported by a team at CMWorks with expertise and ability to deliver on all aspects of organisational development and to ally these with particular knowledge and understanding of the social inclusion sector.
